Produced by: Simon Cox of BBC World Service
Identity Fraud is a growing crime in the UK. It's become frighteningly easy for criminals to steal personal details, without the victim being aware, in order to open credit accounts, take out mortgage loans, and run up huge debts. The program mixes personal testimony from four victims - the discovery of the fraud, the extent of it, trying to resolve the problem - with examples of how people are duped into revealing personal information, and advice and guidance on how to avoid this. Hear from a police inspector who cracked one of the biggest cases in the UK, and from the head of a specialist crime unit who talks about how Identity Fraud is spreading from the UK around the world.
